Website

The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes request data, such as IP addresses, routing information, and system and traffic metadata, to deliver and secure the site. (Cloudflare Privacy Policy)

We use GoatCounter for aggregate website analytics. GoatCounter does not use cookies or other browser storage and does not store IP addresses, full User-Agent headers, or tracking identifiers. It processes page paths, referrers, browser and operating-system summaries, approximate countries, languages, and screen widths. We do not use advertising trackers or cross-site identifiers. The site also loads its App Store badge from Apple, so your browser contacts Apple to retrieve it; Apple handles that request under its Privacy Policy. screenlate.app itself does not set or store any cookies in your browser.

If you submit the contact form, Web3Forms processes your name, email address, message, and technical request data needed to deliver it to us. hCaptcha processes technical interaction data to prevent abuse. Web3Forms states that it does not store form submissions and deletes server logs periodically, about every two months. We use your submission only to respond and manage the request, not for advertising or profiling, and keep our delivered copy only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes. iOS app

On-device image processing

The app uses these privacy-relevant Apple APIs:

• RecognizeTextRequest — Recognizes text in images. Apple states that Vision text recognition runs on the user’s device. (Apple: Recognizing text in images)
• NLLanguageRecognizer — Identifies the recognized text’s language on the device.
• TranslationSession — Translates recognized text on the device. Apple may collect API usage and performance metrics, including the app’s bundle ID and source and target languages, but not the original or translated content. (Apple: Translation & Privacy)

Photos, camera, sharing, and Shortcuts

The Photos picker gives the app only the image you select. Reopening a history item may require Photos access to retrieve that image. Images received through the Share Sheet may be saved to Photos, in a “Screen Translation” album when full access is allowed. The camera is used only after you grant permission. Share Sheet and Shortcuts images are handled locally like other selected images.

You can change Photos and Camera permissions in iOS Settings. Images saved to Photos remain there until you delete them and may sync through iCloud Photos under your settings.

Data stored on your device

The app stores up to 100 local history entries containing recognized and translated text, language pair, date, text layout and appearance, and, when available, a Photos asset identifier. History contains no image copy; the oldest entries are removed automatically.

The app also stores settings, cached subscription status, a daily usage count, and SHA-256 fingerprints of up to 500 processed images for the free-use limit. Fingerprints cannot recreate images. The Keychain quota record may remain after app deletion; other records remain in the app container until replaced or the app data is removed. We cannot access these records.

Crash diagnostics and performance

Screenlate uses Sentry to find and fix crashes, app hangs, errors, and performance problems. Diagnostic reports may include error details and stack traces; performance timings and sampled execution profiles; app and operating-system versions; device model, architecture, and state; diagnostic breadcrumbs; sanitized request URLs and filtered headers for failed network requests; and file names and paths observed by performance tracing, but not file contents.

sendDefaultPii is disabled and Screenlate does not set a Sentry user identity, so the SDK does not send or infer your IP address, name, email address, or account identifier. Screenshot and view-hierarchy capture are also disabled. We do not attach your images, recognized or translated text, history, or settings. Purchases and sharing

Apple processes subscriptions, one-time in-app purchases, and payment information. The app verifies signed StoreKit transactions and stores subscription status locally. It stores the purchased-translation balance and processed consumable transaction IDs in the iOS Keychain. These consumable credits stay on this device and cannot be restored on another device. We cannot access this data. If you copy or share a result, iOS sends it to the destination you select, whose privacy terms apply. (StoreKit; Apple: App Store & Privacy)

Our data practices

We do not sell, rent, or use app data for advertising or cross-app tracking. Sentry receives only the diagnostic data described above, which is not linked to your identity and is used to operate and improve the app. Apple’s processing described above is governed by Apple’s notices, not this policy.
